OLWG #144- The Commute

This week’s prompts are at the bottom. The words below are once again inspired by my good friend, Ms Rose, and written just for practice. Practice makes perfect.

Here’s how to play along, if you are unsure.

Lupe was sitting in traffic on the 405, not too far south of the airport, and on her way to Van Nuys when she spotted Atilio two cars back and one lane over. He was driving the Impala that he had inherited when his father passed away. She slowed down her Prius and waited for him to catch up. When he finally eased alongside her, Lupe tapped the horn lightly, a couple of times and waved at him when he looked over. He didn’t seem to recognize her. She thought she might be being a little too forward. She blushed; embarrassed for flirting.

She had first met Atilio a week ago and thought him to be a handsome gentleman although not a very skillful dancer. At least he was trying to learn, and that was more than she could say about her husband, Guillermo. When Lupe, on a whim, had decided that it would be fun to sign up for Salsa dancing lessons, Guillermo had refused to even entertain the idea of going with her. She had gone on her own. She’d lied to Guillermo and told him that her Mamá wasn’t feeling well.

Since Guillermo had never liked Mamá. He stayed home to drink cerveza and watch the fútbol on TV while Lupe went to sign up for dance class and had been paired with Atilio that first night.

Atilio looked at her blankly when she sounded her horn. He didn’t recognize the lady in the silver Prius. It hadn’t been a good day at the tire shop and that bastard Ramon had taken his lunch. Well he wasn’t sure it had been Ramon, but who else would it have been. The horn sounded again and he looked at the lady again. What the hell was she honking at him for? He wasn’t doing anything wrong!

This week’s prompts are:

  1. is that a no, then?
  2. staring out the window
  3. numbers and charts

  1. Go ahead and dive in, set your imagination free!

  2. Write something big, Write something small,
    Write something
Ready, Set, Go – you have 25 minutes, but if that is not possible, take as long as you need and, have fun!

  1. Never fear Lupe. If you mention it to him at the next class he will feel indebted to you for his slight and the two of you will dance off into the sunset… So tightly constructed. Love this.

  2. I think sometimes we can be very blind to what is around us when not in the same circumstance – the dance? Me thinks that Lupe wants more than she can handle… Maybe she needs a different open road?

And another fine Sunday prompt I paired with Carrot Ranch here:
    Manipulative Machinery or Convoluted Computing
