OLWG #271- Ra, Odin, Zeus, and Jesus Walk Into a Bar

This week’s prompts are at the bottom. Feel free to seize the prompts, twist them, form them, play with them as you will. All comers are welcome. The words below are just practice for me. I had a lot of fun writing them, and you know what I always say, “Practice makes perfect.”

Here’s how to play along, if you are unsure.

Odin sipped his mead and glanced across the table at his drinking companions. Zeus was here, and so was Ra, but, as usual, Jesus was late. Ra, the rough and tumble sun god who spoke in single syllable shouts and growls, was trying to argue with Zeus. Zeus was busy drinking – mixing his Nectars and Ouzo, but Zeus, was articulate and pretended that he could not hear Ra.

Being ignored by Zeus enraged the Sun God. His anger was further fuelled by the Bouza that he drank continuously. His anger compelled him to try and vaporize Zeus by summoning the power of the solar winds.

Zeus, of course, in self defence, began lobbing thunderbolts back at Ra. They screamed, yelled, and tried to kill one another, but in the end, they were friends who drank together, and as they drank more and more, the anger faded.

The sun god and the thunder god soon passed out. Zeus put his head on the table and snored loudly. Ra curled up in the corner, with his head tucked beneath his arm. He dreamt of pharaohs and slave girls.

Odin reclined on the Lazy Boy, watching the ski jumping event on ESPN. He wrote poetry about snow demons, in his head. It was just about then that his phone dinged, notifying him of an incoming text. It was from Jesus.

“Sorry guys, I’m running late…
I made it almost all the way there before realizing I had two different sandals on.
In my defence, it was stupid early, and I’ve been up all night – sleep-deprived.”

This week’s prompts are:

  1. you’re her problem now
  2. …but first, let’s look at the stars
  3. no, not my first husband

You can start writing whenever you want, just write, get the words down – and have fun!
