OLWG #113- The Keys

This week’s prompts are at the bottom.
Practice makes perfect. Let me know what you think.

Here’s how to play along, if you are unsure.

Paul signaled the bartender for another drink and reached for his pack of smokes. Shaking out a Lucky Strike he was surprised when a feminine hand flicked open a zippo, struck a flame and held it out, offering a light. He reached to hold the hand and steady it as he leaned in to accept the proffered flame and to study what he could see. The fingers were long and delicate. The nails were painted red, recently manicured. The skin looked young and flawless.

His eyes moved up her arm, to her face. Dark hair, cut in a short bob, tiny upturned nose, full lips painted in a colour that matched her nails. He was struck by the eyes, large, green, full lashes that fluttered only slightly when he looked at her.

“Thanks, doll,” he said.

“It’s nothing,” she spoke softly with a hint of an accent, a Southern drawl. She stared back at him for a moment before perching on the stool next to his and turning her attention to the television at the end of the bar. The weather was on and the coverage was all about the hurricane rushing toward the keys. As the barman sat his drink down Paul asked the lady what she was drinking.

“Martini,” she said, “dirty martini.”

Paul nodded at the bartender, “Put it on my tab.”

He turned his attention back to his new companion, “I’m Paul,” he introduced himself, “Paul Rickers.”

She nodded, “I know who you are,” she worried, “how long do you think till the storm hits?”

The radium dial of his watch glowed as he turned his wrist and looked down at it, “I reckon it’ll be here in a couple hours,” he pronounced. “Whatcha think, Jimmy?” he raised his voice and hollered down to the bartender, “think we got a couple of hours?”

“Yep,” the barman nodded his head in agreement.
